I've finally gotten back to my web site after a few months not working on it, and I am experiencing a lot of problems. I have used both types of uploads from within the Akaline backend (drag & drop, and browse), and used FTP to upload files to the shoebox folder. Not all thumbnails are being created in some cases, and in others the shoebox processing is not happening. In all cases, the shoebox says it has the photos (via the count), but the photos do not appear in the shoebox.

The rebuild thumbs maintenance tasks either never seem to start (the progress bar remains empty until I leave that screen, or the progress bar reaches a certain point and then does not go any further. I thought I was running 1.1.2, but discovered I was running 1.1.1. So I upgraded, but these problems still exist.

I've changed my PHP.ini file to make sure all resource limits are very high (the files I am uploading are between 10MB & 15 MB), but the diagnostic report from the main settings page does not seem to reflect these changes. I did test by uploading a very small file, and the thumbnails were created.

    Any ideas?

    Dave

I may have fixed this. I made sure my root directory (of my entire hosting account - 'public_html') php.ini had the resource limit increases and then went to my hosting cpanel and set the php configuration to make all applications and directories use the php.ini in the root directory.

There are phi.ini files scattered all over the place, and I thought I had updated them all with the bigger resource limits, but as I said, the diagnostics report from the main Settings page was still showing a 64MB memory limit instead of the 128MB I had changed it to. It now shows 128MB, and my maintenance tasks are working correctly (all thumbs are being created).

Where does Alkaline look for the php.ini file by default? If I have all applications use the php.ini in my hosting account root directory, can I delete the php.ini files scattered throughout all the other directories?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Well, it looks like you've got it all sorted out, but for anyone who searches for this thread: There are many PHP configuration settings that can affect how the size of files being uploaded and processed.

    There's a short Alkaline-specific guide here:
    http://www.alkalineapp.com/guide/howto/increase-upload-size-limit

It's difficult to say for certain where your PHP.ini must reside, since Alkaline doesn't control or modify these settings in anyway, unless you host has documentation on the subject, but I'd be sure to put it in the /admin/ directory at a minimum. You may also be able to use your server's configuration to override PHP configuration settings.

If you press process images (after putting files in the shoebox) you go to shoebox.
If you then after the page loaded fully go back to images and press the process images button again everything moves faster. Is there some kind of timeout problem?

Today the shoebox function worked perfectly, if not almost as convenient as flicker.
I started to use http://www.expandrive.com/ and made a direct connection to shoebox.
It mounts a ftp as a folder on the desktop.

Tried the drag and drop upload for one image today.
Don´t work for me. On the positive side is that the ftp upload with shoebox and process bar works perfectly. I batched 15 images at once.

Today I uploaded over 60 images in one batch to shoebox. Worked great.
